Stop Saying You’re ‘Passionate’ About Design/Architecture
...Instead, Say This!
Stop saying you’re “passionate” about design/architecture. Companies hear this in almost every interview.
“Passionate” is vague, and when everyone says it, it stops setting you apart.
If you want to stand out, REPLACE PASSION WITH PROOF.
BE SPECIFIC. Use project examples from your own experience, favourite phases, studios you admire, softwares you enjoy using, such as:
1. “I’m really drawn to adaptive reuse projects. I like the challenge of working within existing constraints while still creating something contemporary.”
2. “During my last project, I focused heavily on detailing and documentation. I realised I really enjoy that technical side of design.”
3. “I’ve been following studios like (mention a studio) because of their approach to sustainability”
4. “Outside of work, I sketch buildings around my city, admiring the architecture in my surrounds.”
5 “I’ve been actively improving my Revit skills because I want to be more confident contributing to documentation packages.”
The difference?
You’re not just telling us you care, you’re showing how you think and what you notice.
Be specific. Be intentional. Back yourself with real examples.
