5 Ways To Be A Good Leader

5 Ways To Be A Good Leader: Let’s hear from our leader at the helm, Gemma Palfreyman!

“At the core of great leadership, everything comes from the top: Appreciation, mutual respect, how mistakes are handled, and the level of mentorship and direction your team receives.”

Here are Gemma’s 5 key ways to lead well:

1. Get to know your team

  • Have you recently taken the time to truly get to know the people you’re working with? Not just their role, but who they are.

2. Understand individual personalities

  • Every team member is different. What motivates them? What makes them tick? How do they respond to feedback or criticism?
  • Strong leaders tailor their approach to bring out the best in each individual.

3. Lead with accountability

  • Take credit where it’s due and recognise your team’s achievements. When mistakes happen, take responsibility and guide the team through it. Leadership means showing up through both the good times and the challenging ones.

4. Invest time in mentorship and direction

  • Great leaders don’t just delegate, they spend time with their team. Proper handovers, clear direction, and ongoing mentorship are what keep teams aligned, confident, and progressing.

5. Support your team on a human level

  • Your team aren’t robots, and everyone has things going on outside of work. Being a good leader means offering support both professionally and personally, and being present through both highs and lows.

“Its important to reflect on: When you’re away, how does your team operate? Does it run like clockwork, or does it fall apart? The answer often reflects the strength of your leadership.

Understanding your team, what drives them, how to support them, and how they perform best is what separates appointed leaders from great ones.” – Gemma Palfreyman
