Portfolio Red Flags
Remember: Your portfolio is the thing that gets you the interview, so make sure it’s doing you justice!
Here are some common pitfalls to watch out for:
Spelling matters:
If you can’t spell architecture, it’s a problem (yes we see this…).
Image quality counts:
Low-resolution images or drawings make your work look sloppy.
Keep it clean:
Cramped or noisy pages overwhelm the reader. Simple layouts with consistent fonts and colours always win!
Show your contribution:
For each project, highlight your contribution. Don’t just show the project itself. (This one is so, SO important)
Be transparent:
Even as a graduate with limited experience, it’s fine to clarify what you worked on versus what was done by senior team members, such as “the director did this sketch, I contributed to X, Y and Z”
Honesty is key:
Your actual skills will surface on the job, don’t exaggerate or embellish.
A well-crafted portfolio isn’t just a showcase; it’s your first impression. Take time to construct it to make it count!
