Tips For Getting A Promotion

A promotion usually doesn’t happen overnight. It comes from understanding what’s expected in the role above you and consistently working towards it.

One of the best things you can do for your career is ask your manager directly:
“What skills or experience do I need to reach the next level?”
That could mean:
• Improving software skills
• Building communication and leadership skills
• Taking on more responsibility
• Gaining experience in areas you’re lacking

A lot of this feedback will already come up during performance reviews, and it’s important to remember that feedback isn’t criticism. It’s guidance for growth.
(Refer back to our post about criticism being a positive! https://megarecruitment.com.au/criticism-is-a-pearl-have-you-ever-thought-about-criticism-as-a-positive/)

The key is applying that feedback over time so your progress is visible. Then check in again. Keep the conversation going. Also, salary reviews and career progression aren’t always the same thing. Focus on building the skills first, and the long-term financial growth follows.

Be patient, stay motivated, and keep showing up and checking in consistently! Not just so others notice, but for your own development too.
